Developmental Consultations on Physician, Family or Community Referral.
We are available to see children through 6 years of age to help clarify developmental concerns.  The problem may be one of body control, learning, language or socialization. We see children who may have a genetic problem or possibly a birth defect.

Newborn Follow-up Program:  Children and families who graduate from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Albany Medical Center or St. Peter's Hospital in Albany N.Y. are followed by our team of developmental pediatricians and nurses for any concerns about development in the early years of their life. We collaborate with County Early Intervention Programs and help parents to understand any developmental changes they might encounter as they grow. We are be able to assess all graduating infants and help parents with the complexities of health and development we may see in our most fragile children.

Consultation Services and Developmental Screening of High Risk Children.  Children in foster care, born into high risk environments, exposed to lead poisoning or having other risk factors that may affect development can be seen for developmental screening and counseling.

Specialized Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders Program.  Our staff has extensive professional experience in the field of autistic spectrum disorders. We collaborate with all of the service providers in the region to provide parent counseling, and regional training as well as high-level child assessment.

Our Medical Consultation Program for Special Needs Children
We recognize the considerable efforts that parents and families make to keep their special needs children healthy. Having extensive experience in pediatrics and child development puts us in an excellent position to help, especially with complicated health and developmental issues.  We have expert capabilities in general health issues as well as the health concerns more common in special needs children.  For example, our clinicians  are known for their special expertise in Down Syndrome, Prader Willi Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and autism.  We serve as pediatric and developmental consultants, working in conjunction with the family's primary care providers. We will evaluate the child’s health status and help with behavioral and developmental issues. We are able to link parents to any resources they might need and communicate closely with the primary care provider to ensure continuity of care.

Adoption Assessment Program
We recognize that the adoption process can be long, and emotionally intense. Our extensive experience in pediatrics and child development enables us to help  pre-adoptive parents especially in health, developmental and behavioral concerns.  We have expert capabilities in general pediatrics as well as health concerns that are more common in internationally and domestically adopted children. We understand the worries pre-adoptive parents may have in the areas of childhood development, learning and behavior.  For those families, we can review the health status and special needs of the child they are considering for adoption. We are happy to evaluate medical documents, video tapes, photographs, growth charts and other available information. We will be pleased to meet with prospective parents at any time to assist with this difficult process. We can also provide the same range of services for post-adoptive families and link parents to the resources they need, while maintaining close communication with the child’s primary care provider.

Parent Education Seminars.  We present educational opportunities on childhood disabilities on many aspects of child development in a wide variety of instructional programs.

Parent Counseling and Support Program.  We recognize the stress and confusion that can come from parenting children with special needs, so we are available to provide support and counseling to caregivers.

Reimbursement : We have contractual arrangements with most counties under the Early Intervention Program and participate in most third party insurances.
